Timothy Farrar, a graduate of The Australian Ballet School performed with the Queensland Ballet Company between 1996 and 2000, touring to the United States. It was at this time he choreographed his first work Into Collision and also had his choreography featured in the short film Ballet Boys.
In 2001 Timothy joined The Australian Ballet and worked there until 2007. Touring with the company to China, Japan and the UK. During his time with the company he performed many soloist roles in the repertoire ,in a variety of works by choreographers including: Jiri Kylian, Natalie Weir, Stanton Welch, Stephen Baynes, Meryl Tankard, Nicolo Fonte, and Nacho Duato. While performing with The Australian Ballet he continued his choreographic development creating three works : A Little Disconnect, Resolution and This Tense for the BodyTorque seasons over 3 consecutive years.
2003 saw Timothy travel to Singapore after being commissioned to create a work Quick/Time/Trick with Singapore Dance Theatre. In 2006/2007 while at The Australian Ballet Timothy received a travelling choreographic scholarship to observe companies such as Nederlands Dance Theatre , Scapino Ballet and Rambert Dance . In late 2007 Timothy joined Sydney Dance Company performing various featured roles.
In 2008 he was involved as a cast member on the film version of Maos Last Dancer. 2009 saw Timothy in a lead role performing as Older Billy in Billy Elliot the Musical. From 2010-2012 Timothy toured to Edinburgh Festival with Opera Australia and their award winning production of Bliss. He also performed featured roles in multiple seasons of contemporary dance work including Where the Heart Is - an Expressions Dance Company (EDC) production. The company won an Australian Dance Award for this work during Timothy’s time performing the piece.
In May 2010 he was awarded Best New Choreography at the Short and Sweet Dance Festival in Sydney for his duet Few Things Of The Same Kind. In early 2011 he created No Place Nowhere for EDCs Launch Pad season, while in July 2011 he created Pint Size for the graduating year of the QUT Dance program. In 2012 he returned to Edinburgh Festival with Leigh Warren and Dancers to perform in the Double Bill of Breathe (Frances Rings) and Impulse (Leigh Warren).
In addition to his dancing and choreographic career over the past five years Timothy has been developing his filmmaking talents by creating several short dance films with artists from The Australian Ballet, Expressions Dance Company and various freelance dance artists. He also completed a Graduate Certificate in Screen Culture at AFTRS Sydney culminating in the creation of his first full length dance Documentary The House Project. In conjunction with his choreographic work Timothy has been in demand as a Classical and Contemporary Teacher and coach over the past seven years. In addition to this he also coaches Full-Time students in both classical and contemporary Pas de deux. He is currently teaching at NAISDA , STUDIO TIBOR and EV and BOW Full Time Dance Training Centre.
